The pottage garden, or else know as the composite garden, combines annuals, perennials and herbs and vegetables into one. These gardens have been popular in France for many centuries. Things like parsley have always been popular for borders and thin paths laid with rustic herringbone pattern bricks pave the way for paths, allowing access to the interior of the garden.

As a Calgary gardener, I would love to see some of the concepts come to Calgary. The pottage garden is in many cases as true work of art as perennials and annuals are skillfully laid with though being put into the styles and texture of herbs and vegetables being planted within.
